.co.ke or .com? Choosing a domain extension
By Micah Ondiwa, Senior Software Engineer 1 min read
A .co.ke signals a Kenyan business; a .com suits an international audience. Many organisations register both.
The extension — the part after the dot — tells visitors something about you.
.co.ke
The .ke country-code domain, including .co.ke for companies, is managed in Kenya. It signals a local business and is familiar to Kenyan customers.
.com
Widely recognised internationally and suits organisations with customers outside Kenya.
Other options
Extensions such as .org, .ac.ke or .go.ke serve specific types of organisations and have their own eligibility rules.
Register both
Many organisations register .co.ke and .com, use one as the main website and redirect the other.
Be consistent
Use the same domain for website and email so customers recognise you.
