Domain renewal and ownership hygiene
By Inara Crest Engineering 1 min read
Auto-renewal, correct contacts and secure registrar accounts keep your domain — and everything on it — safe.
Losing a domain takes down your website and email. A few habits prevent it.
1. Turn on auto-renewal
And keep payment details current.
2. Keep contacts current
Use an address the organisation controls.
3. Secure the account
Strong password and multi-factor authentication.
4. Lock the domain
Enable transfer lock.
5. Record details
Registrar, expiry date and who manages it.
6. Watch for scams
Fake renewal notices and "domain listing" invoices are common. Only renew through your actual registrar, and check unexpected messages carefully.
7. Plan for staff changes
Make sure more than one person in the organisation can access the registrar account, and update access when people leave.
Manage domains on MavenHost (opens in a new tab).
