Email templates that render everywhere
By Micah Ondiwa, Senior Software Engineer 1 min read
Email clients render HTML inconsistently. Simple layouts, inline styles and testing keep transactional and marketing emails readable.
An email that looks perfect in one client can fall apart in another. Email HTML has its own rules.
Keep layouts simple
Single-column layouts with a maximum width around 600 pixels work reliably across clients and phones.
Use conservative HTML and CSS
Many clients ignore modern CSS. Use simple structures and inline styles for critical formatting.
Always include a plain-text version
It helps deliverability and accessibility.
Make it accessible
Use real text rather than images of text, meaningful alt text, sufficient contrast and readable font sizes.
Brand consistently
A consistent header with your logo, clear sender name and footer with contact details builds recognition and trust.
Test
Send test emails to common clients and devices before using a new template.
