Setting up email on phones and desktop clients

By Inara Crest Engineering 1 min read

Use the right incoming and outgoing settings, secure connections and app passwords where required.

Most connection problems come from small settings mistakes.

1. Use IMAP

Keeps mail synchronised across devices.

2. Use the correct servers

Incoming and outgoing server names from your provider.

3. Use secure connections

SSL/TLS on the recommended ports.

4. Authenticate outgoing mail

Outgoing servers require your username and password.

5. Test

Send and receive a message on each device.

6. Use secure apps

Use reputable mail apps and keep them updated. Turn on device passcodes so mail on a lost phone is protected.

7. Remove old accounts

When staff leave or change devices, remove company mail from old devices.

See email hosting on MavenHost (opens in a new tab).
