Data centre access and visitor procedures

By Inara Crest Engineering 1 min read

Who may enter, how visits are recorded and escorted, and what visitors may do — a simple procedure.

Physical access to servers is as sensitive as administrator passwords.

1. Define authorised staff

Only named people have unescorted access, reviewed regularly.

2. Pre-arrange visits

Vendors and visitors are booked in advance with a purpose.

3. Record entry

Log name, organisation, time in and out and the escort.

4. Escort visitors

Visitors are accompanied at all times.

5. Control equipment

Record equipment brought in or taken out.

6. Review logs

Compare access logs with booked visits.

7. Handle emergencies

Define how emergency access works — for example during a fire alarm or after hours — and how it is recorded and reviewed afterwards.
