The hotel technology stack: what connects to what
By Vicky Ogola, Senior ICT Consultant 1 min read
PMS, booking channels, point-of-sale, door locks, Wi-Fi, CCTV and accounting must work together reliably — on a well-designed network.
A hotel runs on a surprising number of systems, and guests notice immediately when they do not work together.
Core operational systems
The property management system handles reservations, check-in, rooms and billing. It connects to online booking channels, the restaurant and bar point-of-sale, accounting and, often, the door lock system.
Guest-facing technology
Wi-Fi is the most visible service. Many properties also run TV systems, in-room controls and digital information screens.
Safety and security
CCTV, access control for staff areas, fire systems and, where installed, room key systems.
The network ties it together
A well-designed network separates guest Wi-Fi, operational systems, payment terminals and building systems into protected segments, with enough capacity for peak occupancy and a backup internet link.
Check integrations before buying
Ask how each new system will exchange data with the PMS and accounting. Manual re-entry between systems causes errors and extra work.
Plan support
Hotels operate around the clock. Agree how urgent problems are handled at night and on weekends.
