Wi-Fi 6 and 6E: what changes
By Vicky Ogola, Senior ICT Consultant 1 min read
Newer Wi-Fi standards improve performance in busy environments and add new spectrum — benefits depend on client devices and design.
Each new Wi-Fi generation promises more speed. In practice, the bigger improvement is efficiency in crowded spaces.
Wi-Fi 6
Improves how access points serve many devices at once, which helps offices, hotels and venues with many users.
Wi-Fi 6E
Adds the 6 GHz band, with more channels and less interference — where regulations and client devices support it.
Client devices matter
Benefits appear only when phones and laptops support the newer standards.
Design still matters
A well-designed network with the right number of wired access points matters more than the standard.
Plan upgrades
Upgrade access points and the switches feeding them together, checking PoE budgets.
