Equipping a new office: an ICT checklist
By Kennedy Ougo, Senior ICT Consultant 1 min read
From internet and cabling to printers and phones, a checklist that helps a new office open with technology that works on day one.
Opening a new office involves many technology pieces that depend on each other. Ordering them in the right sequence avoids a first week without internet.
Months before
- Order the internet connection — installation lead times can be long.
- Plan cabling and Wi-Fi with the fit-out, before ceilings close.
- Decide on a location for the network cabinet with power and ventilation.
Weeks before
- Order computers, network equipment, printers and phones.
- Arrange security systems: access control and CCTV.
- Prepare user accounts, email and licences.
Days before
- Install and test the network, Wi-Fi and internet.
- Set up and test printers and shared devices.
- Check backup power for the network cabinet.
Opening day
- Have a technician on site.
- Provide a one-page guide: Wi-Fi details, printing, who to call.
After opening
Collect feedback in the first two weeks and fix issues while everyone remembers them.
