BlogProject delivery
Lessons-learned reviews
By Kennedy Ougo, Senior ICT Consultant 1 min read
A short, honest review at the end of each project — and at key milestones — makes the next project better.
Organisations often repeat the same project problems because nobody records what happened and changes the process.
Hold the review promptly
Within a few weeks of completion, while details are fresh — and consider short reviews after major milestones on long projects.
Invite the right people
Include the project team, suppliers, users and the sponsor.
Ask simple questions
What went well and should be repeated? What did not go well? What would we do differently next time?
Focus on process, not blame
The goal is to improve how work is done, not to find culprits.
Turn lessons into changes
Update templates, checklists, standard designs and contracts. A lesson that changes nothing is not learned.
Share widely
Make lessons available to future project teams.
