Overload monitoring dashboards for road agencies

By Micah Ondiwa, Senior Software Engineer 1 min read

Turning weighing records into a picture of overloading by route, time and operator helps agencies target enforcement and plan maintenance.

Every weighing station generates records. Brought together, they show where overloading happens, when and by whom — information that individual station reports hide.

What to show

  • Share of weighed vehicles over the limit, by station and over time.
  • Distribution of overloads by axle group and severity.
  • Repeat offenders by transporter or vehicle.
  • Screening performance: vehicles flagged by weigh-in-motion versus confirmed on static scales.
  • Station uptime and throughput.

Make it trustworthy

Dashboards must draw from tamper-protected records and show when data was last received from each station. A station that stopped reporting looks like a station with no overloads.

Use it for decisions

Highlight corridors and periods with high overloading so enforcement resources can be deployed where they matter, and share trends with maintenance planners.

Respect access levels

Station staff, supervisors and management need different views. Limit access to personal data such as registrations and driver details.
