Weighbridge operator training and procedures
By Vicky Ogola, Senior ICT Consultant 1 min read
Accurate equipment still needs consistent operation. Clear procedures and training make weighing fair, safe and defensible.
Most weighing disputes come from how a weighing was carried out, not from the scale. Operators are central to a reliable system.
Standard procedures
- Check the indicator reads zero before each vehicle.
- Make sure the whole vehicle is on the deck and stationary.
- Confirm the vehicle details and configuration.
- Record the reading only when it is stable.
Handling exceptions
Write clear steps for overloaded vehicles, equipment faults, disputed readings and power outages, so operators do not improvise.
Customer interaction
Explain readings and decisions calmly, show the evidence and follow the escalation route for disputes.
Training and refreshers
Train every operator on the equipment, software and procedures before they work alone, and refresh periodically and whenever systems change.
Supervision
Review records for unusual patterns — frequent voids, manual entries, overrides — and use them for coaching.
