Weighbridge management software: what it should do
By Micah Ondiwa, Senior Software Engineer 1 min read
Good weighbridge software captures every weighing reliably, links it to vehicles and documents, and produces records nobody can quietly change.
A weighbridge produces a number. Weighbridge management software turns that number into a record that can be trusted, reported on and acted upon.
Capture readings directly
The software should read weights straight from the indicator, never from a typed value. Manual entry is the most common source of errors and disputes.
Link the weighing to context
- Vehicle registration, ideally read automatically by ANPR.
- Axle configuration and the applicable limits.
- Transporter, driver, consignment and route.
- Images from cameras at the moment of weighing.
Support the operating rules
For load control, the software applies configured limits per axle group and gross vehicle mass and records the decision. For commercial weighbridges, it handles first and second weighings, tare and net weights and tickets.
Protect the record
Each record should be time-stamped, attributed to an operator and protected from editing. Corrections must create a new, linked entry with a reason — never overwrite.
Report and integrate
Daily summaries, overload trends, operator activity and exports to finance or enforcement systems turn individual weighings into management information.
